2024: The Fastest Year of My Life

Time flies when you’re writing, writing, writing!

My biggest goal this year has been to write as much as I can and I certainly have been! In March, I finished my first draft of the LitRPG: “The Cleric of Aphrodite.” I discussed that in my last blog post which was in (oops) January. If you met me at a recent con and signed up for my newsletter, you may recall that I said I’m lazy about updating my newsletter. Well, there’s your proof.

As soon as I finished that draft, I dove right back into writing “The Violet Scars of Lightning.” I’m close to 70,000 words into that and was full steam ahead on it, but then inspiration struck.

The day after the solar eclipse, I sat in my van on a trip back to Houston from San Antonio. The whole time a story unfolded before me and I became obsessed with it. What do I mean by obsessed? Well, as soon as we parked at home, I flung my door open, ran upstairs, and opened my laptop.

Over the next eight days, writing consumed me. It was like I’d stepped through a portal to a different dimension where nothing but my story existed. Fortunately, I have a very supportive husband who let me lean into it. By the end of the eight days, I had a 132k word first draft.

Normally, I set aside my drafts, work on something else for a while and then come back to edit it. However, I was so in love with this one that I jumped right into developmental editing. A little over a week ago, I finished developmental edits and I’m working spelling, grammar, and typos, before I reach out to some professional editors.

Fine, I’ll stop teasing you.

The book is called “A Weaving of Untruths,” and here’s a brief description:

“A Weaving of Untruths” is a gothic fantasy with elements from Norse, Danish, and German lore. The chapters are filled with broken promises and forbidden kisses. This is a world where some bear the shame of their own curses or live in dread of those that they inherited. Every character is a liar, even if all they speak are truths.

The story follows a young mortal woman named Vero who is loved by the Norse gods Freyja and Odin. Most people notice her Freyja-blessed beauty right away, but it’s the strategic brain Odin gifted her that she truly relies on. She winds up the mistress of a powerful duke who lives in a castle suffering from a generational curse. Then things don’t go at all as planned.

It’s dark, sex positive, and super sweary. If you like that my books are pretty PG13, this may not be the book for you. If you want something that’s spicy, raw, and bold, stay tuned!
